Today we will look at the comparison of Mary Shelley’s book “Frankenstein, or Modern Prometheus” with The Wanderer Frankenstein’s Creature .
History published in 1818 is considered the first science fiction novel in history. Interestingly, the book was actually written on a dispute. Once Mary was in the company of the famous English writer Lord Byron, who invited guests to compose some terrible story. The result of this proposal was the book about the crazy scientist Viktor Frankenstein.
In October 2019, La Belle Games is developing the game The Wanderer Frankenstein’s Creature, which is a walking simulator with a view of the top. The player has to take on the role of the legendary nameless monster and go through his whole life path from birth to the final.
Few people know that book history begins in St. Petersburg. The yard costs a thousand seven hundred some year and the English citizen Walton keeps the way to Arkhangelsk to hire the ship and make an expedition to the North Pole. Walton constantly writes a letter to his sister about the progress of his enterprise and it is from these letters that the reader will learn the history of the Frankenstein family.
Without focusing on the details of the expedition, Walton will tell that amazing things have begun. At first, the team saw some kind of giant who ruled the dog with a harness and rushed through the frozen ice, and then nailed a exhausted and frozen man to the ship on an ice. He manages to bring him a little and, having gathered his thoughts, the guest decides to tell the captain his incredible story.
It turns out that his name is Viktor Frankenstein and his life was rather cloudless. Victor was born in a family of famous and wealthy officials, had a sharp mind, found a great friend, and his family members, including two younger brothers and his half -sister, are excellent people in all respects.
When Victor is 17 years old, he goes to study at the university. There he comprehends various sciences, and also becomes obsessed with the comprehension of the secret of creating life. Several years of scientific research give their fruits and Victor manages to create an ugly humanoid monster. True, the result of the work is so terrifying Victor that he leaves his workshop and tries to forget about what he did. Waking up on the laboratory table, the monster runs out of the workshop and it is from this moment that the game begins.
In the game, the monster is represented https://hustlescasino.uk/ by a strange -like form by a humanoid, and at the expense of angles the player will not show the face of the monster. At the beginning of the passage, the developers clearly relied on the atmosphere and sound accompaniment. Each action of the monster is accompanied by a certain melodic sound, and the environment seems vague, as if a picture drawn by wide strokes. However, quite quickly the monster will meet with people who will try to kill him and have to run.
The monster still does not understand what is happening, but decides to sit out in the old extension next to a lonely hut. Watching its inhabitants, the monster finds out what words are and will learn to better understand people. Three live in this hut – young people Felix and Agatha and old de Lesi. All of them, as well as the Frankenstein family, are exemplary virtuous people. In the game, their story will become behind the scenes, and from the book the reader learns that Felix got into a political scandal, for which his family was first kept in prison, and then expelled from the city, at the same time confiscated all the property. Therefore, the whole family is now forced to power the miserable existence in need and hunger. The monster is imbued with sympathy for these people and, as far as possible, secretly helps the family with simple mini-games.
A year passes and the monster already understands human speech, got acquainted with classical European literature and more or less learned to understand human relations. However, he also learned the basics of psychoanalysis and now knows for sure that he is ugly, poverty and lone. In the hope of correcting the current situation, the monster hopes to get acquainted first with the old man, because de Lesi is blind, and only then appear to Felix and Agate. It all starts well. The old man seems to be imbued with sympathy for the monster, but at the most inopportune moment young people return, and Felix attacks the monster, forcing him to escape.
From this moment, the monster decides that it is enough and it will no longer endure such an attitude to himself. Therefore, the next day the monster returns and burns a hut, though there are no more people in it. They all in fear left their home. This moment is cut out of the game and it becomes clear that the developers have changed the tone of history. The fact is that the book clearly shows how the offended creature turns into a ruthless killer, but the role of the sufferer is assigned to the monster in the game. By the way, only after the escape from Felix, the game allows you to see the face of the monster.
So, disappointed in people, the monster decides to find its creator Victor to find out why he was created. True, the game monster will first look into the abandoned garden, where he will try to revive the sculpture, and visit the church, hoping to find Christian love. Both attempts will fail, but, in my opinion, are the most atmospheric moments in the whole game. Honestly, it would be better to play here and end.
Further, the book plots diverge very strongly. The fact is that the book monster decides to first take revenge on Victor because the Creator abandoned him. The monster first kills Victor’s younger brother, and throws the only evidence to the maid, who, after a short trial, is declared guilty and sent to the scaffold. Moreover, the book Victor knows who is guilty of murder, but understands that no one will believe in the story that he created a monster. In the end, the monster overtakes Victor, but says that his hatred faded and asks the scientist to create a woman in order to happily live with her from people. Victor first refuses, but, having thought, recognizes the idea not so bad and agrees.
There are no murders in the game, and the monster decides to return to their place of birth. Upon arrival, it turns out that the authorities became known about the experiments of Victor and now the scientist on the run. Having broken into the laboratory, the monster sees that Victor was trying to create another monster, but did not have time to finish the experiments. An attempt to finish his work for his work is an unsuccessful. The monster goes in pursuit of Victor and the degree of the strangeness of history increases markedly.
The fact is that the monster arrives on the island where the costume parade passes. Everyone takes his appearance for a carnival costume and the monster participates in various entertainment events. Here the monster finds his love at first sight, and the developers begin to break the fourth wall. Replicas appear in the dialogs, which the monster will not pronounce, leaving comments that someone controls it. This is all a reference to a secret ending, but about it a little later.
At this time, the book Victor, wandering around the world, understands that he in vain agreed to create a woman and destroys all his developments. The monster becomes furious and promises to turn Victor’s life into hell, eager to come after him immediately after the wedding. Almost immediately, the monster kills Victor’s best friend, and suspicions of murder are falling on the scientist himself. Victor will have to sit in prison for several months, but in the end he will be justified, and he returns home. The time for marriage comes. By the way, his half -sister should become Victor’s wife. Newlyweds leave for a country estate, and Victor prepare for the battle with the monster. However, the monster manages to outwit Victor, it kills his wife and runs away again. The scientist begun to take revenge on the monster and rushes in pursuit, because of which he ended up on board the English ship (you have not forgotten that the story is told in the letters of the captain?).
At this time, the game monster finds a new laboratory where Victor apparently continued the experiments? The scientist himself is not there, but this is no longer important. The monster decides that he can finish his work and he succeeds. Another monster is born. True, two monsters cannot come to understanding, so in the final the original monster either kills a new monster, or they both fall from a cliff at sea.
In the book, the captain of the ship arrives in shock from the story he heard, and Victor feels that he is dying, so he asks the captain to kill the monster if they still meet. After some time, Victor dies, and a monster is broken into his cabin, which turns a dialogue with the captain. The monster claims that all this time he suffered from the awareness of his own actions, so now that his creator is dead, he will also kill himself, because he no longer has reason to live. With these words, the monster retires towards the North Pole.
Such stories. Initially, I wanted to praise the developers, because they saved the narrative from many secondary and optional details. They cut out the English expedition, the backstory of the de Lesi family, the endless nervous breakdowns of Victor. However, the relationships of the Frankenstein family or the interaction of the hero with the monster and the interaction of the hero with the monster went under the knife. Due to this approach to Victor’s motives, many questions arise in the game-why did he continue the experiments? Why tried to create a woman? Apparently, according to the plot of the game, Victor remained a crazy scientist. And the carnival looks like a location that they just wanted to insert for the sake of a sudden love line from scratch. As a result, a story that could go for a brief and visually pleasant retelling of the book turned into a drama about a white and fluffy creature that suffers due to its appearance.
By the way, the game still has a secret ending in the game. And you know, she is very good. In pursuit of Victor, the monster can break into a small hut and find Mary Shelley there. She will tell that Victor is a scientist from her nightmares, and the monster himself is immortal, because even if he kills himself, he will still be reborn when someone again decides to get acquainted with his story, hinting at the players. As a secret for re -passage, the ending looks great. Here are just the dialogs breaking the fourth wall are available already at the first passage, and therefore introduce extra elements to history.
In the book, the story turned out much darker. There, the reader sees the phased transformation of the creature into a real monster, which is aware of the fact that he takes out his anger on innocent victims. Moreover, the monster uses not only its physical strength, but also learns to lie and manipulate the interlocutors, so in the finale you no longer experience any pity for the monster.
